APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Error Message: Multiple symptoms are possible. The error is
known to occur in the test suites for Elasticsearch and appear
as:
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Illegal CRC-32 checksum
.
Stack Trace: If the problem is occurring in the Elasticsearch
test suites, the following methods will be on the top of the
callstack:
org.apache.lucene.codecs.CodecUtil.writeCRC
org.apache.lucene.codecs.CodecUtil.writeFooter
.
This problem can only happen on z Systems.

Local fix

  • 



Problem summary


    

  • A JIT compiler optimization will try and use the RISBG or RISBGN
instructions to calculate the logical and of two longs. In some
edge cases, it is possible that the result will not be correctly
computed.

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • The JIT compiler has been updated to correctly compute the
result of a logical and of two longs.

This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases:
   8    SR3 FP21  (8.0.3.21)
   7 R1 SR4       (7.1.4.0)
.
