Error description
Error Message: Unhandled exceptionType=Illegal instruction vmState=0x00000000...Compiled_method=... . Stack Trace: N/A . This issue only affects Java running on Linux on z Systems.
Local fix
N/A
Problem summary
When running Linux as a guest on z/VM, it is possible to configure z/VM to masquerade the underlying machine as hardware of a different generation. This can cause problems with the processor detection logic in the Java JIT compiler, and can then result in crashes with Illegal Instruction exceptions.
Problem conclusion
The JIT compiler has been updated to use an improved algorithm for determining available processor facilities. . This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases: 6 R1 SR8 FP4 (6.1.8.4) 7 SR9 (7.0.9.0) . Contact your IBM Product's Service Team for these Service Refreshes and Fix Packs. For those running stand-alone, information about the available Service Refreshes and Fix Packs can be found at: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/
