APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • WebSphere MQ 7.1 and higher is made the primary install in the
    default location. All of the symlinks were created except for
    runmqras.

    The symlink from /usr/bin/runmqras which links to
    MQ_INSTALLATION_PATH/bin/runmqras is not present.

Local fix

  • Manually create the symbolic link.

    Add the below to the instinfo.tsk in the $MQ_INSTALLATION_PATH
    directory (e.g. /usr/mqm for a default location install)

     SymLink:
     Name=/usr/bin/runmqras
     Target=/usr/mqm/bin/runmqras
     Activity=PRIMARY

    Then run setmqinst command; again making Installation2 the

     /usr/mqm/bin/setmqinst -n Installation2 -i

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    Users who have used the setmqinst command to configure their
    environment and who want to run the runmqras command without
    being in the MQ_INSTALLATION_PATH/bin directory.

    Platforms affected:
    Linux on Power, Linux on S390, Linux on x86, Linux on x86-64,
    AIX, HP-UX Itanium, Solaris SPARC, Solaris x86-64, Linux on
    zSeries

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    At the time of running the setmqinst command, symbolic links
    (symlinks) to the MQ_INSTALLATION_PATH/bin binaries are created
    to allow them to be run when outside of the
    MQ_INSTALLATION_PATH/bin directory.

    In the case of the runmqras binary, this symlink was incorrectly
    being omitted.

Problem conclusion

  • The setmqinst command has been amended and the symlink is now
    created when running the command.
