Error description

  • Error Message: JVMSHRC625E Error opening shared memory region.
Check for shared memory size failed.JVMSHRC663I Error recovery:
destroyed semaphore set with id=1249288 associated with shared
class cache.JVMSHRC661E The JVM failed to associate shared
memory id=0 with the shared class cache.

    Stack Trace: N/A
    .

Local fix

  • There are two workarounds to this problem:1) If the user has not
already issued -Xshareclasses:destroyAll, then make sure that
the JVM being used is of same address mode as the shared class
cache to be removed.2) If the user has already issued
-Xshareclasses:destroyAll using JVM of different address mode
than the shared cache, then the shared memory left behind can be
    removed by issuing 'ipcrm' command.

Problem summary

  • This problem occurs on z/OS when the JVM attempts to destroy a
shared class cache of different address mode. For instance a
    31-bit JVM removing a 64-bit shared cache or a 64-bit JVM
removing a 31-bit shared cache. In such cases, the JVM cannot
verify that the associated shared memory was created by a JVM
(of another address mode) causing it to exit without removing
    the associated shared memory.

Problem conclusion

  • The JVM has been updated to avoid removing any shared class
cache of different address mode and display a message that a JVM
of same address mode as the shared class cache be used to remove
    the cache.
