Error description
Error Message: An illegal instruction exception (SIGILL) is raised in the JIT shared library (libj9jit2X.so). The problem affects 31-bit System Z JDKs running on Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7). . Stack Trace: N/A .
Local fix
This issue can be worked around with the -Xjit:noResumableTrapHandler option. This option may cause up to 2% degradation in performance.
Problem summary
This problem is caused by the JIT signal handler incorrectly setting the wrong addressing mode for a helper function on signal return. The kernel then tries to invoke the helper method in the wrong addressing mode, resulting in a crash.
Problem conclusion
This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases: 7 R1 SR1 FP1 (7.1.1.1) 6 R1 SR8 FP1 (6.1.8.1) 6 SR16 FP1 (6.0.16.1) 7 SR7 FP1 (7.0.7.1) . The JVM has been updated to correctly set the addressing mode to prevent the illegal instruction exception from occurring.
