APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • On a cluster made of 3 nodes (node51, node52, node53)
a new VG and RG are created from this C-SPOC Menu on
a subset of nodes (only node51, node52):
          Create a Volume Group
 Node Names                       node51,node52
 Resource Group Name              [rg_new]
 PVID                             00c57fac87ec0c94
 VOLUME GROUP name                [vgname]

The operation completes successfully, but the following
error messages appear in SMIT and cspoc.log:

 /usr/es/sbin/cluster/sbin/cl_on_node -cspoc -f -n
   /usr/sbin/putlvodm -T 521e02b03a51332b
   00c57fac00004c0000000140c53a735b
....
 node53: FAILED: eval  /usr/sbin/putlvodm -T
   521e02b03a51332b 00c57fac00004c0000000140c53a735b
 node53: 0516-304 /usr/sbin/putlvodm: Unable to find
   device id 00c57fac00004c0000000140c53a735b in the
   Device Configuration Database.
 node53: cl_rsh had exit code = 3, see cspoc.log
   and/or clcomd.log for more information

Where '0c57fac00004c00000001407bc2b563' is the VGid,
and the above error messages occur on the node which
was not selected in the Create a VG SMIT Menu.
This problem can only occur if this PowerHA 6.1 apar
(or equivalent PowerHA 7.1) is installed: IV41182

Local fix

  • If the error messages appear only for the node which
was not selected in the Create a VG SMIT panel, then
the messages are harmless and can be ignored.

Problem summary

  • While creating a VG with CSPOC on a subset of cluster nodes,
CSPOC error messages are reported on non-participating
node.

Problem conclusion

  • Corrected the code to synchronize VG time stamps on the
participating nodes only.
