Problem summary
The synchronization in TimeZone.getDefaultInAppContext() is limited through APAR IV28205 to reduce the performance overhead due to excessive synchronization. However, this is not good enough for certain application which extensively access the default TimeZone.
Problem conclusion
This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases: 6.0.0 SR15 FP1 6.0.1 SR7 FP1 7.0.0 SR6 FP1 7.0.1 SR1 . The JDK is updated to avoid the synchronization in TimeZone.getDefaultInAppContext().
