Error description
This problem occurs even if the fix of PowerHA 712 apar IV33964 (or equivalent for other releases) is already installed. During the initial cluster configuration, the first Verification and Synchronization will fail during the mping check with these messages: Verifying multicast communication with mping. --- 228.168.101.43 mping statistics --- 5 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss ERROR: Multicast communication with node <nodename> using mping failed This problem can only occur when the nodes are not part yet of the CAA cluster.
Local fix
Enable multicast on the network also for the IP address 228.168.101.43/4098

Problem conclusion
Added a check to ensure customer configured multicast IP address is used,if exists, with mping during initial cluster verify & sync.
