JDK outputs incorrect timezone information for following
timezones.
America/Indiana/Knox
America/Indiana/Marengo
America/Indiana/Petersburg
America/Indiana/Tell_City
America/Indiana/Vevay
America/Indiana/Vincennes
America/Indiana/Winamac
America/Monterrey
America/North_Dakota/Beulah
America/North_Dakota/Center
America/North_Dakota/New_Salem
Asia/Khandyga
Asia/Ust-Nera
Europe/Busingen

Local fix

  • 1. Use the JVM commandline option -Duser.timezone=<TimeZone>
   Eg: -Duser.timezone=Asia/Khandyga
2. Add the mappings manually in tzmappings file.
   Eg: In tzmappings file add the line
   Asia/Khandyga Asia/Khandyga

Problem summary

  • Since no OS to Java timezone mappings existed in tzmappings file
for reported timezones, JDK picks up GMT as default timezone.

Problem conclusion

  • This defect will be fixed in:
5.0.0 SR16 FP4
6.0.0 SR15
6.0.1 SR7
7.0.0 SR6
.
JDK has been updated with entries in tzmappings file for the
reported timezones.
