Error description

  • An extended delay with queue manager shutdown may be observed
when using the pre-emptive (-p) option for the endmqm command.
This is the result of WMQ internal monitoring. WMQ will check
for the restartable MQ processes and restart any not found to
be active. WMQ trace shows that during a pre-emptive end, the
monitoring process doesn't take into account the current queue
manager status (ending) and repeatedly restarts the missing
WMQ processes. This results in a delay reaching an ended state.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
You may be impacted by this problem if you are using the
pre-emptive (-p) option for the endmqm command.

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows)
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
A restartable process such as the amqfqpub process may be
repeatedly restarted by the queue manager during an endmqm -p
shutdown. Each time, the restartable process ends because it
detects that the qmgr is ending; and each time, the queue
manager restarts it because it is missing. This cycle may repeat
many times, until the queue manager has completed other shutdown
    work.

Problem conclusion

  • The problem has been eliminated by not allowing restartable
processes to be restarted during queue manager shutdown.
