IV45040: IBM JDK INSTALLATION TERMINATES SILENTLY WHEN /ETC/MAILCAP & /ET C/MIME.TYPES ARE MISSING IN THE SYSTEM

Error description

• Error Message: With install console the final message from
  installer are as below

  IBM JDK installation using InstallAnywhere (IA) package fails
  silently as it can not continue with the installation when
  /etc/mailcap & /etc/mime.types are missing in the system.
  

Local fix

• To make install operation successful either of  the following
  options can be applied.
  1) Install mailcap RPM package before attempting the JDK
  installation.
  2)Create dummy files /etc/mailcap and /etc/mime.types files
  manually before installing the JDK
  

Problem summary

• The problem is caused when /etc/mailcap & /etc/mime.types file
  are not present in the machine where the installer is being run.
  These files are used to write the java web start entries during
  jdk installation. The installer will fail silently if these
  files are not present in the /etc directory of the system.
  

Problem conclusion

• This defect will be fixed in:
  6.0.0 SR15
  6.0.1 SR7
  7.0.0 SR6
  .
  IBM JVM has been updated to create /etc/mailcap &
  /etc/mime.types files if not exists where installing the IBM JDK
  using installAnywhere package.
