  • Error Message: An error message similar to:
BFD: Warning: core.dmp is truncated: expected core file size >=
743342080, found: 210800640.
is seen when opening a core file from the IBM JVM with GDB on
Linux.

Local fix

  • The core file can be used as normal.

Problem summary

  • The problem was caused by the JVM was incorrectly writing the
header information in the core file causing it to appear the
core file was smaller than it should be. No data was missing.

Problem conclusion

  • This defect will be fixed in:
7.0.0 SR5
6.0.1 SR6
6.0.0 SR14
.
The JVM has been updated to write the header information
correctly.
