APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • UDP is not scaling when using IPv6 due to the current
complex lock implementation causing lock contention.

Local fix

  • Disabling of krlocks can reduce the CPU consumption
caused
by lock contention.

Problem summary

  • Hot RTENTRY LOCK leads to slow performance for IPv6.

Problem conclusion

  • We take advantage of the READ locks in the case where we are
reading data so that we an allow other readers to go through
as well. Prior to this everyone else was blocked on the lock
after someone acquired it.
