Error description

  • When updating to a later level of aix in this case 5.3 TL
09 to 5.3 TL 12
you can have an increase in boot time for a system with
usb ports. We will
not have to have anything plugged into them it is just
the config time of the
usb itself. In the one customers case we see:

TL12:  Completed method for: usb0, Elapsed time = 18
TL9:    Completed method for: usb0, Elapsed time = 2

You can see the time it took for usb0 to configure with:

alog ?ot boot | grep Elapsed | grep usb

Problem summary

  • When usb devices are connected to a system, the system may take
long time to boot up due to configuration of usb devices.

Problem conclusion

  • Improve the algorithm  to enumerate the devices and decrease
the bouncing time incurred for low/full speed devices connected
to high speed host controller.
