IV35074: TAR -ZCVF FAILS IF THE FIRST INPUT FILE IS EFS ENCRYPTED APPLIES TO AIX 6100-06

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The tar -Zcvf fails if the first input file is EFS
encrypted, error message as below:
tar: 0511-173 File XXX is not of the expected file size.

If you use tar -Zxvf to extract it, you can see that the
EFS encrypted file in the tar file is corrupted.

Local fix

  • Add option -b to specify the number of blocks per record.
eg: tar -b4 -Zcvf

Problem summary

  • The tar -Zcvf fails if the first input file is EFS
encrypted, error message as below:
tar: 0511-173 File XXX is not of the expected file size.

Problem conclusion

  • Ensure that read file and not write file is passed to maxread
in the even that the data type changes.
