APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • A queue manager running with a large number of active SVRCONN
channels is seen to take an excessively long time to complete
queue manager shutdown processing, even though the immediate
(-i) option is used with endmqm.

The queue manager shutdown does eventually occur without
    incident.

Local fix

  • None. Qmgr will eventually shutdown on its own.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users with a large number of active channels during queue
manager shutdown are more likely to encounter this problem.

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows)
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
During shutdown the queue manager initiates the termination of
client connections and waits for the connections to end. As
time passes, this termination loop goes through several phases,
each of which is more aggressive than the last.

As long as progress appears to be being made the 'current' phase
is allowed to continue. In this case there were several
thousand client connections, and these connections were ending
at a slow but steady rate. The shutdown continually appears to
be making progress and so does not move to a more aggressive
    shutdown phase.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was modified so that an upper time limit was placed on
each phase in the termination logic. This time limit takes
precedence regardless of whether progress was being made in the
    current phase.
