APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Under certain circumstances a WebSphere MQ queue manager can
retain information about XA transactions that is not removed
until the queue manager is restarted. This can occur, for
example, when an external XA Transaction Manager software
    product calls xa_end(TMFAIL) without a subsequent xa_rollback.
This build up of transactions can result in decreased
performance of XA calls and high CPU usage within the amqzlaa0
    processes.

Local fix

  • Restart the queue manager.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users with many XA transactions for which information has been
    retained.

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows)
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The queue manager retains information about XA transactions that
have been ended until they are committed or rolled back. If the
external Transaction Manager software product does not commit or
roll back the transaction then information is retained until the
    queue manager is restarted.

Problem conclusion

  • Support for an environment variable, AMQ_XA_ZOMBIE_EXPIRY, has
been added that will allow transactions to be expired, allowing
the retained information about the transaction to be removed.
The environment variable should be used under the guidance of
    IBM support.
