IV17818: PATH SELECTION FAILURE WHEN REMOVING SAS RAID ADAPTER. APPLIES TO AIX 5300-12

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When servicing a SAS RAID Adapter, which has SIS SAS RAID
  Arrays, it is possible for a path selection failure occur
  causing I/O failure to the disk.  The scenario is rare, and
  is more likely to occur when performing open and closes to
  the SIS SAS RAID Array while removing one of it's two SAS
  RAID Adapters.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• When servicing a SAS RAID Adapter, which has SIS SAS RAID
  Arrays, it is possible for a path selection failure occur
  causing I/O failure to the disk.  The scenario is rare, and
  is more likely to occur when performing open and closes to
  the SIS SAS RAID Array while removing one of it's two SAS
  RAID Adapters.
  

Problem conclusion

• Add additional retries in path state checking code after
  encountering Path State Changed check conditions from a SIS
  SAS RAID Array.
