IV04476: 'MKRAMDISK 8388608' FAILS TO CREATE RAM DISK APPLIES TO AIX 5300-11

Error description

  • mkramdisk command will fail to create a 4G RAM disk when
    8388608 blocks are specified as input. Command works fine
    for input 4G.
    
    # mkramdisk 8388608
    Invalid size given
    
    # mkramdisk 4G
    /dev/rramdisk0
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • mkramdisk doesn't properly handle very large number of 512 byte
    blocks as input.
    

Problem conclusion

  • cast large block inputs correctly to properly create the
    ramdisk
