APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• On AIX booted as 32 bit Operating System running on 64 bit
  hardware, can not monitor DB2 64 bit instance.
  Even after selecting and installing the 64 DB2 Monitoring agent,
  ITM attempts to start the 32 bit DB2 Monitoring agent even
  thought the DB2 instance to monitor is 64 bit.
  
  RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS:
  
  Install a 64 bit version of DB2 on AIX 32 bit OS/64 bit HW.
  Create a 64 bit DB2 instance.
  Select and install the 64 bit DB2 monitoring agent.
  Start the DB2 monitoring agent for the DB2 instance created.
  [ERROR] The 32 bit mode version of the DB2 agent is started and
  fails to monitor the 64 bit DB2 instance.

Local fix

• 1. Install 64bit DB2 Agent.
  2. Remove <CANDLEHOME>/registry/udaix523.ver.
  3. Add the following in <CANDLEHOME>/registry/udaix526.ver.
  
     runArch = aix523
     runArch = aix533
  

Problem summary

• Unable to monitor 64 bit DB2 instances when the operating system
  is booted as 32 bit on 64 bit hardware.
  
  
  On an AIX operating system booted as 32 bit running on 64 bit
  hardware, IBM Tivoli Monitoring cannot monitor 64 bit DB2
  instances. Even after specifically selecting and installing the
  64 bit DB2 monitoring agent, IBM Tivoli Monitoring attempts to
  start the 32 bit DB2 monitoring agent even though the DB2
  instance to monitor is 64 bit.
  

Problem conclusion

• Allow monitoring of a 64 bit DB2 instance on 64 bit hardware
  even when the operating system is booted in 32 bit mode.
  
  The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance
  packages:
