Error description
Shutdown of NPIV clients may suffer delays when target ports have left the SAN or are unresponsive. In some cases, NPIV clients may be unable to reconnect to the VIOS for a time because a previous NPIV shutdown request is still active on the VIOS. The old shutdown request will eventually finish, but the client NPIV connection will be unusable in the mean time. This could result in NPIV client boot failures. This problem is specific to NPIV. The fix for this APAR applies to the VIOS only; it is not required on the clients.

Problem summary
Shutdown of NPIV clients may suffer delays when target ports have left the SAN or are unresponsive. In some cases, NPIV clients may be unable to reconnect to the VIOS for a time because a previous NPIV shutdown request is still active on the VIOS. The old shutdown request will eventually finish, but the client NPIV connection will be unusable in the mean time. This could result in NPIV client boot failures.
Problem conclusion
The driver is updated to avoid sending LOGO ELSes to SAN targets used by NPIV clients when the client is shut down. This prevents the possibility of a LOGO ELS suffering a time out. This applies only to logouts that are the result of a client shutdown. A client can still explicitly request that a LOGO be sent to a particular SAN target.
