IT47171: REST APIS TO GET STORAGE SYSTEMS IN A FLASH GRID AND TO GET STORAGE PARTITIONS IN A FLASH GRID, ARE TIMING OUT.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Calls to the Storage Insights REST APIs for getting the list
  of storage systems in a particular Flash Grid and for getting
  the list of storage partitions in a particular Flash Grid, are
  timing out and returning no data.
  
  Note: Using the UUID in the Storage Insights GUI labeled
  "Flash Grid ID" is the incorrect UUID to use in the REST API.
  

Local fix

• At the moment, there is no REST API to obtain the Flash Grid
  UUID, and the Flash Grid UUID is not displayed in IBM Storage
  Insights GUI.
  
  The workaround is to use the 'browser developer tools' to obtain
  the Flash Grid UUID, and use that UUID in your REST API calls.
  
  Here are the steps for identifying the Flash Grid UUID:
  
  1. First, you must have a Flash Grid present in your Storage
  Insights tenant.
  
  2. In Storage Insights select the top button "Try New
  Experience" to switch to the new Carbon UI.
  
  3. Open the browser developer tools. In most browsers this is
  accomplished by pressing F12.
  
  4. In the browser developer tools, select Network tab, and
  select All (or remove any filter which may be present).
  
  5. Refresh the main page in Storage Insights to reload the
  Carbon UI.
  
  6. Open the Search in the browser developer tools.
  
  7. Search on this term in the browser developer tools:
  siFlashGridUUID
  
  8. In the "items" list (at the top of the search results) you
  should have a list of search results, including:
  "siFlashGridUUID":"xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx"
  
  9. Clicking on that line item in the search results will open
  the JSON value in the Response tab.  Here you can copy the
  UUID value of siFlashGridUUID.
  
  10. Using the siFlashGridUUID value in your REST APIs will
  return the list of storage partitions or storage systems in that
  Flash Grid, depending on the REST API.
