Error description

  • Microsoft SQL Server Always On failover cluster instances (FCIs)

    use Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) to provide local
    high availability.

    When an FCI is offline, the IBM Storage Protect Plus SQL Agent
    running on the Microsoft SQL server can crash.

    The message seen in the application inventory or SQL backup job
    will stop with the message :

    ERROR .. CTGGE0119,[<SQLServerAddress>] Instance
                      [<SQLInstanceName>] is offline.

    On the Windows host, the application event log will report the
    IBM Storage Protect Plus SQL Agent sqlvdiwrapper.exe crash :

    Error,<timestamp>,Application Error,1000,(100),
          "Faulting application name: sqlvdiwrapper.exe,

Local fix

  • Ensure there is no offline FCI for the protected Microsoft SQL
    server.

    * sqlvdiwrapper is crashing if one of the SQL FCI instance is *
    * down. See Error Description for more details. *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Apply the fix available in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus level *
    * 10.1.16.4 or above.                                          *
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • While logging the information about offline SQL-FCI, "node name"
    was missing, which was causing segmentation fault and
    sqlvdiwrapper.exe to crash. Fix has been added in IBM Spectrum
    Protect Plus 10.1.16.4 and any later levels.
