APAR status

Error description

  • Starting with IBM Storage Protect Server 8.1.6 an Object Agent
    service was provided to allow Clients to store data on the
    server using the Amazon S3 protocol.
    
    The IBM Storage Protect Object Agent is observed to be slow when
    
    processing client requests using the Amazon S3 protocol list and
    
    delete commands.
    This only becomes noticeable when millions of objects are stored
    
    on the server.
    As an example, the ListBucket command sent by an
    IBM Storage Protect Plus vSnap server to the
    IBM Storage Protect server is expected to last a few seconds
    even when the target bucket holds millions objects.
    It was observed that it could last much longer for example over
    5 or 10 minutes.
    Since the ListBucket command is frequently used, the impact of
    the slowness can become very high and cause an archive or copy
    to cloud operation to last many hours beyond the expected job
    duration.
    
    The impact of the slow deletion command was observed to cause
    delayed expiration tasks to delete the expired objects from the
    target bucket.
