IT46443: JVMJ9VM149E ERROR AFTER UPGRADING IBM STORAGE PROTECT: DATA PROTECTION FOR VMWARE TO VERSION 8.1.23.0 ON LINUX

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• After upgrading the IBM Storage Protection for Virtual
  Environments: Data Protection for VMware to version 8.1.23.0 on
  Linux the tag based backups and the webserver and vmcli services
  all fail with the below errors:
  
  JVMJ9VM149E <JAVA_HOME>/lib/ext is no longer supported. Please
  add the required libraries/jar files to the classpath.
  
  Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
  
  Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.
  
  This happens when the following directories :
  <JAVA_HOME>/lib/endorsed
  <JAVA_HOME>/lib/ext
  are still present from older java versions installed with
  previous IBM Storage Protection for Virtual Environments: Data
  Protection for VMware packages.
  That means that new IBM Storage Protection for Virtual
  Environments: Data Protection for VMware installations are
  unaffected.

  VMware version 8.1.23.0 and later on all supported Linux
  platforms.

Local fix

• Remove the following directories and restart the services:
  /opt/tivoli/tsm/tdpvmware/common/jre/jre/lib/ext
  /opt/tivoli/tsm/tdpvmware/common/jre/jre/lib/endorsed

Problem conclusion

• After applying the fix, the backups/restore operations  should
  work, as the scripts were updated to remove the
  directories("endorsed" and "ext)  after the VE upgrade.
