Error description
An upgrade of the IBM Storage Protect Server to version 8.1.22 will skip DB2 update if the current level is 8.1.18 and above. The IBM Installation Manager will not report any errors, and will complete successfully, however after the operation completes and instance is started, various database related issues that can be observed in the server startup messages or db2diag.log may emerge, including inability to restore the database taken from the same 8.1.22 level, which has DB2 properly updated. To confirm whether DB2 update has been successful, a db2level command must show the following version: DB21085I This instance or install (instance name, where applicable: "SERVER1") uses "64" bits and DB2 code release "SQL11058" with level identifier "0609010F". Informational tokens are "DB2 v11.5.8000.11809", "special_38086", "DYN2401121257WIN64_38086", and Fix Pack "0". Product is installed at "C:\PROGRA~1\Tivoli\TSM\db2" with DB2 Copy Name "DB2TSM1". To recognize the symptom, the following should be verified in the IBM Installation Manager log (an example of an upgrade from Server level 8.1.21 to 8.1.22): 479 INFO 00:27.87 INFO: com.tivoli.dsm.server.db2.DB2Info.isDB2Current(400) : DB2 current version: 11.5.8000.9187 480 INFO 00:27.87 INFO: com.tivoli.dsm.server.db2.DB2Info.isDB2Current(400) : Package Version: 11.5.8000.11809 This part confirms that DB2 levels are different so an upgrade must take place. 866 INFO 04:09.28 INFO: sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(-2) : upgradeDB2: false 918 INFO 05:14.77 INFO: sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(-2) : installDB2Fixpack: false 924 INFO 05:14.77 INFO: sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(-2) : installDB2Release: false This part confirms that version comparison has failed as it didnt identify the difference, resulting in wizard skipping the DB2 update. Another way to assume this behavior has taken place is to monitor the DB2 upgrade step duration, which if it does take place lasts for a significant amount of time, while in this case it will end up within a minute. IBM Storage Protect Versions Affected: IBM Storage Protect Server 8.1.22 on all supported platforms Additional Keywords: Storage Protect; TS015867808; DB2; DB2 update; database restore;
