Error description
When viewing Used Capacity data for DS8000 in Storage Insights, the hourly data is not available at the storage system level. Only daily capacity data is available when the data resolution is configured for hourly or sample. The hourly data can be observed at the pool level but should be available for both. There is a rare issue with the hourly-to-daily aggregation process, specifically when the aggregation process overlaps the probe. As a result, the hourly-aggregated data cannot be read into the daily aggregation for capacity. For example, storage device "A" has a daily probe that runs at approximately 19:00. The subsequent hourly aggregation occurs at 19:30, and the hourly aggregation data is available after it has been processed. However, the daily aggregation also runs at 19:30, which means it cannot read the last hourly aggregation which kicked off at 19:30. Additionally, if the mini-probe for device "A" is not running, there is only the single daily probe data point for device "A", and it is not included in the daily aggregation. Consequently, there is no daily capacity aggregation.
Local fix
If you are concerned this may occurring, contact IBM Support for assistance to confirm this diagnosis. The solution Is to schedule the daily probe at a time which does not overlap the aggregation process.
