IT45947: USING AWS VIRTUAL-HOSTED-STYLE URL RESULTS IN ORPHANED RETENTION SET COPY VOLUMES

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Support for AWS S3 virtual-hosted-style URL was added in IBM
  Spectrum Protect server v8.1.18, however, virtual-hosted-style
  URLs were able to be configured and used prior to IBM Spectrum
  Protect version 8.1.18.
  
  Retention set copy jobs created using virtual-hosted-style URLs
  prior to v8.1.18 will generate volumes that are not deleted as
  expected from AWS S3 Storage post upgrade of IBM Spectrum server
  to v8.1.18, and are orphaned in AWS S3 storage.
  
  The behaviour described occurs as a result of APAR IT44690:

  IBM Spectrum Protect Versions Affected:
  
  IBM Spectrum  Protect version 8.1.13.000 and later versions on
  all supported platforms.
  

Local fix

• Valid retention set copy volumes can be identified with the
  QUERY RETSET LISTVOL=YES command.
  Obsolete retention set copy volumes on AWS S3 storage can be
  identified and removed using AWS S3 tools.
