Error description

  • Replication of large size objects might fail by the reason of
insufficient free space in the target directory storage pool or
cloud storage pools using cloud cache even though there is
enough space in the target container to ingest objects.

When replicating node data, IBM Storage Protect server allocates
the replication reserved space on the target directory container
or cloud cache container before receiving objects. Usually it
preallocates the same size as the total size of objects.
However, for a large size object that is greater than 10 GB, the
server falsely allocates the larger size of reserved space than
the object size. As a result, replication might fail by the
reason of insufficient target storage space in spite of the fact
that there is enough free space.

The value of "Replication Reserved Space" can be seen in output
SHOW SDPOOL while the replication process is running.

    IBM Storage Protect Versions Affected:
IBM Storage Protect Server 8.1 on supported platforms

    Additional Keywords:
    ANR4369I, ANR0522W, ANR0206E, TS015706582

Local fix

  • It might be mitigated by specifying greater value than 1 to
PreallocReductionRate option on the target server when data
deduplication or compression percentage is high.
