APAR status

Error description

  • The source package name for the IBM Storage Protect Windows
    Backup-Archive Client on Windows changed in version 8.1.21.
    In versions prior to 8.1.21 the source package is named "IBM
    Spectrum Protect Client.msi".
    In version 8.1.21 the source package is named "IBM Storage
    Protect Client.msi".
    
    When performing an automatic client deployment for IBM Storage
    Protect Windows Backup-Archive Client version 8.1.20 and
    earlier, the IBM Storage Client Deployment Manager version
    8.1.21 looks for source package "IBM Storage Protect Client.msi"
    on the Windows system.  This source package does not exist and
    the automatic client deployment fails.
    
    The file "updatemgr.log" shows
       <date> <time> The Deployment Manager succesfully extracted
         from installation image: 8.1.19.0-TIV-TSMBAC-WinX64.exe.
       <date> <time> The Deployment Manager will install the
         Backup-Archive client with the following feature set:
         BackupArchiveGUI,BackupArchiveWeb,Api64Runtime.
       <date> <time> ANS4210E The Deployment Manager failed to
         install package: 'Backup-Archive Client'. The Microsoft
         Installer error code was '1619'
       <date> <time> ANS4299E AMD64, <schedule name>, WINDOWS: The
         client deployment failed. The previous event causing the
         failure is: 4210
    
    The Microsoft Installer error code '1619' means "This
    installation package could not be opened. Verify that the
    package exists and that you can access it or contact the
    application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows
    Installer package.".
    
    The trace file "trace.txt" shows

    The trace shows source package "IBM Storage Protect Client.msi"
    is used instead of "IBM Spectrum Protect Client.msi".

  • upgrade to client 8.1.21 using deploy manager or upgrade client
    manually to the required version

Problem conclusion

  • The IBM Storage Protect Backup Archive Client update manager
    tried to run "IBM Storage Protect Client.msi" for all 8.1.x
    installation packages. But for the installation packages that
    earlier than 8.1.21, the .msi file name is "IBM Spectrum Protect
    Client.msi". This caused installation failed.
