APAR status

Error description

  • When relocating a virtual machine (VM) inside the vCenter to a
    different datastore in a different cluster and running an
    
    inventory on IBM Storage Protect Plus side, the VM backup
    
    done afterwards is failing and indicates that the new datastore
    
    
    does not exist.
    
    Example:
    On vCenter the VM 'VM_1234' was relocated from host
    
    STORAGE_A.com in POOL_A to STORAGE_B.com, POOL_B.
    
    After running an inventory on IBM SPP, the next VM backup
    
    shows error message:
     ERROR,...,CTGGA2649,Backup of virtual machine (VM)
    
          VM_1234 has failed. Error:
    
          Datastore (POOL_B) does not exist.

Problem conclusion

  • Prior to IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.16, the hypervisor
    backup logic did not properly utilize cached data, possibily
    resulting in an erroneous "datastore does not exist" error when
    executing a backup. This bug has been fixed in IBM Spectrum
    Protect Plus 10.1.16 and the erroneous "datastore does not
    exist" message is no longer seen (except when a datastore does
    not actually exist).
