IT45085: UNABLE TO RETRIEVE MULTI-BYTE CHARACTERS FROM A MYSQL DATABASE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When retrieving multi-byte character data from a MySQL database
  a "BIP2322E: Database error: SQL State '22018'; Native Error
  Code '0'; Error Text '[MySQL][ODBC 8.0(w)
  Driver][mysqld-8.0.33]" error message is returned to indicate
  that there are unconvertable characters in the data.
  

Local fix

• Setting the MQSI_ASSOCIATE_ODBC_CONVERTER environment variable
  can be used to work around the problem.

  All users of App Connect Enterprise who use multi-byte data with
  a MySQL database access via ODBC.

  Linux on Power platform, Linux on x86-64 platform, Linux on
  zSeries platform, Windows on x86-64 platform, AIX

  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  When accessing multi-byte data in a MySQL database via ODBC an
  error is reported indicating that there a characters that cannot
  be converted.
  

Problem conclusion

• The default App Connect Enterprise default settings used for
  interacting with a MySQL database have been changed to work with
  multibyte characters.
