IT44127: UNINFORMATIVE VM BACKUP MESSAGE CTGGA2649 "VMDKBACKUP BACKUP PROCESS COULD NOT BE LAUNCHED"

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Starting with version 10.1.15, the IBM Storage Protect Plus job
  log for a VM backup can display the following error message :
  
  CTGGA2649,Backup of virtual machine (VM) <VMName> has failed.
            Error: vmdkbackup backup process could not be launched
                   {"mapType":"java.util.HashMap" "empty":false}
  
  The cause of the failure was found to be an incorrect
  IBM Storage Protect Plus appliance certificate as indicated by
  the following message in the vADP host /var/log/messages :
  
  startTask(): failed to connect spp server:
               I/O error on GET request for
               https://<ApplianceIP>/api/site:
               Certificate for <ApplianceIP> doesn't match any of
               the subject alternative names:
               [<Appliance incorrect IP or hostname or FQDN>;
               nested exception is
               javax.net.ssl.SSLPeerUnverifiedException:
  
  This is corrected with a regenerate of the appliance certificate
  as indicated in the documentation section ?Regenerating the
  Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate

Problem conclusion

• This problem has been fixed so that after certificate error is
  encountered in a VMware backup job, a clear VADP message:
  "unable to find valid certification path to request target." can
  be reported.
