APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When the backup-archive client communicates with a server at
    8.1.15 or later, changing the password via the GUI does not work
    properly.
    
    If the old password has no letters and the new password includes
    any lower-case letters, the password from the backup-archive
    client GUI changes successfully.
    However, subsequent attempts to enter the new password do not
    work. Instead, the GUI continues to prompt for the password.
    
    If the old password includes letters, the GUI does not allow the
    change of the password and reports an "Authentication Failure".
    
    
    Versions affected:
    IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client 8.1 on all supported
    platforms
    

Local fix

  • Use upper-case letters in the password or use the command line
    "dsmc set password oldpw newpw" command to change the password
    as desired.

Problem conclusion
