Error description

  • IBM Spectrum Protect Plus catalog backup job fails with the
    following errors:
INFO,<JOB ID, Date, Time>,CTGGA2168,Done protection of
    Configuration catalog. Duration: XXXXms Result:Failed. 1 : .
ERROR,<JOB ID, Date, Time>,CTGGA0825,One or more catalog tasks

    basicStep1 in job basicOneStepJob

The symptom is identical as the one described in APAR IT40609,
but the underlying issue is different.
The cause of the observed failure is a faulty catalog dump size
validation done at backup time used to prevent size errors at
    restore time.

    IBM Spectrum Protect Versions Affected:
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.9 to 10.1.10.1

    | MDVREGR 10.1.8.2-TIV_5737SPLUS |

Additional Keywords: SPP, SPPLUS, TS009390847, CTGGA2168,

Problem conclusion

  • This is caused by concurrent writes to the audit log while a
catalog backup is performed, which rotates the audit log data in
the MongoDB database while the database is being dumped. This
rotation causes the dump operation to fail, subsequently failing
the catalog backup. A global preference has been added that can
lock the audit log during catalog backups, which stops the audit
log from rotating while the MongoDB database dump is in progress
and resolves the "CollectionScan died due to position in capped
    collection being deleted" error.
