Error description
A process of COPY STORAGE POOL (SUMMARY) triggered by a STGRULE does not entirely honor the CANCEL PROCESS command. After the CANCEL PROCESS command is issued, the given process still shows in the QUERY PROCESS output. The COPY STORAGE POOL has a SUMMARY and a WORKER thread. When CANCEL PROCESS command is issued, the SUMMARY process keeps working unnecessarily, while the WORKER process exits. The SUMMARY process only stops after a long wait time, or if user issues a HALT command and starts the IBM Spectrum Protect Server service again. To verify whether this problem is occurring, review the ACTLOG for the following messages: The CANCEL PROCESS command will show as accepted with the following message: ?ANR0940I Cancel request accepted for process xxxx?. Despite having the CANCEL PROCESS accepted, the process hangs andprevents the user from starting another COPY STORAGE POOL process for the given storage pools. The SUMMARY portion of the COPY STORAGE POOL hangs, while the WORKER threads exit successfully leaving the COPY STORAGE POOL (SUMMARY) process to finish running. The actlog will show the following messages when this issue is seen: COPY STORAGE POOL process started: ANR0984I Process 1309 for COPY STORAGE POOL (SUMMARY) started in the FOREGROUND at 14:05:53. (SESSION: 25809, PROCESS: 1309) ANR2875I Processing of the ?RULE_NAME? storage rule has started. (SESSION: 25809, PROCESS: 1309, JOB: 772) Cancel process command issued: ANR2017I Administrator ADMIN issued command: CANCEL PROCESS 1309 (SESSION: 26173) ANR0940I Cancel request accepted for process 1309. (SESSION: 26173) After more than an hour the process is still hanging and another cancel attempt will report: ANR2017I Administrator ADMIN issued command: CANCEL PROCESS 1309 (SESSION: 26249) ANR0941I CANCEL PROCESS: Cancel for process 1309 is already pending. (SESSION: 26249)
Local fix
User needs to halt and restart the Spectrum Protect instance or wait until the process finishes.
