IT40437: AFTER UPGRADING TO 8.1.13 UNSUPPORTED HFS+ JOURNALED FS OBJECTS ARE EXPIRED AND BACKED UP AGAIN

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• After upgrading IBM Spectrum Protect Client to 8.1.13, the first
  incremental backup expires all HFS+ journaled file system files,
  then back them up again, however, the initial backup reports
  that only restore can be performed as the file system is too
  old:
  ANS1522W The type of /FS file system is too old and only restore
  can be performed.
  
  HFS+ journaled file system is no longer supported by the
  operating system, and hence with version 8.1.13, the warning
  message ?ANS1522W? was introduced, but the file system is
  processed by incremental backup anyway.
  
  IBM Spectrum Protect Versions Affected:
  IBM Spectrum Protect Client version 8.1.13 and higher on macOS
  platform
  
  Initial Impact:
  High
  

Local fix

• 1- Convert the file system to a supported type like APFS if
  possible.
  2- Otherwise, exclude it from backup. For example, add the
  following to the options file:
  exclude.fs /FS

Problem conclusion

• The issue has been fixed, so the backup operation will not
  tolerate sending any files for HFS or journaled HFS+ file
