IT40067: ORACLE ALTERNATE RESTORE FAILS TO CREATE DATABASE DBF FILE IF SOURCE DATABASES HAS ASM SUBDIRS UNDER +DATA/<ORACLE_DB>/ FOLDER

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Oracle alternate restore through IBM Spectrum Protect Plus fails
  with below error if source databases has ASM subdirs under
  +DATA/<ORACLE_DB>/ folder:
  
  ERROR,1643879927751,<time+date+timezone>,2,CTGGF0237,[IP-addres
  s]<ORA-DB>: RMAN-03002: failure of restore command at <DATE TIME
  ERROR,1643879927754,<time+date+timezone>,2,CTGGF0237,[IP-addres
  s]<ORA-DB>: RMAN-06026: some targets not found - aborting restor
  
  The Oracle DB has some dbf files under sub-folder, like:
          "name" : "+DATA/<ORACLE_DB>/<sub-folder>/*.dbf",
  
  The RMAN log shows:
  
  ORA-19504: failed to create file
  "+DATA/<ORACLE_DB>/<sub-folder>/test.dbf"
  ORA-17502: ksfdcre:4 Failed to create file
  +DATA/<ORACLE_DB>/<sub-folder>/test.dbf
  ORA-15173: entry '<sub-folder>' does not exist in directory
  '<ORACLE_DB>'
  
  During restore, only +DATA/<ORACLE_DB> is created on alternate
  location. The sub-folder, like +DATA/<ORACLE_DB>/<sub-folder>,
  is not created, so RMAN fails to create file
  +DATA/<ORACLE_DB>/<sub-folder>/test.dbf during restore.
  
  Versions affected: 10.1.*

Problem conclusion

• Fixed an issue with creating missing subdirectories as part of
  ASM database restore. After applying the fix restore to
  alternate location with ASM subdirectories under
  +DATA/<db>/folder will complete successfully.
