Error description

  • On vSnap servers, when the 'vsnap system init' command is

invoked with the option '--skip_pool', it is expected to
    perform

initialization of the vSnap installation but skip the creation
    of a storage pool.

If the option '--encryption on' is also specified together
    with
the '--skip_pool' option, then the encryption option is silently

ignored without any error or warning being reported on the

screen. The encryption option is only applicable when creating
    a
storage pool and is therefore incompatible with the 'skip_pool'
option. The lack of any on-screen feedback can cause confusion
about the result of the command.

Additionally, the inline help for the command (seen by running
'vsnap system init --help') does not provide sufficient

information make it clear that these two options are
    incompatible.

    Versions affected: 10.1.X

Local fix

  • Do not specify --skip_pool when also using '--encryption on'

Problem conclusion

  • The inline help for the "vsnap system init" command has been
updated to mention that 'encryption' and 'skip_pool' options are
incompatible. If both options are specified anyway, the
initialization process shows a warning message on screen
indicating that the 'encryption' option is being ignored.
