APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • An unexpected internal MQ appliance reload might cause HA queue
managers to report a partitioned state.

Local fix

  • Manually resolve partitioned state by issuing the
    'makehaprimary QMgrname' command.

Problem summary

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Before the appliance reloads as part of recovering from a hang
situation, it notifies the MQ HA processes to take necessary
action for the graceful termination of the HA queue managers
before the network interfaces go down. However, in some
scenarios the notification was not received by the relevant MQ
process. As a result the HA queue managers were able to enter a
running state on both the nodes when the network communication
between the system was lost during the reload. This caused the
queue manager to go into Partitioned state.

Problem conclusion

  • The MQ Appliance firmware is modified to improve the
coordination between the processes during an appliance reload to
prevent the queue managers from going into partitioned state.

Separately, the trigger condition for the hung state that caused
the reload on the appliance where this issue was observed has
    been addressed under APAR IT35810.
