Error description

  • User is using IBM Host Integration License Manager (HILM) in
    combination with PCOMM.

    The HILM server doesn't show the correct IP-Address of the
    PCOMM-Client (PCOMM 14.0.4 on Windows 10), when the client is
    connected via Wi-Fi and VPN.

    They are expecting the HILM report to consistently show the
    IP-Address of their VPN-Network.

    When they connect via LAN-cable and VPN, HILM shows the correct
    IP-Address. However when they are connected via Wi-Fi and VPN,
    the HILM shows their "private" IP-Address, which is what they
    are not expecting.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * The client IP address provided to the Host Integration *
    * License Manager (HILM) is incorrect when the PCOMM client *
    * machine connects using VPN and WiFi. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    PCOMM gets the list of network adapter information to get the IP
    address of the client. The current logic provides the IP of the
    last adapter in the list to HILM. Hence, the client machine
    using VPN & WiFi provides an IP address which is not part of VPN
    network.

Problem conclusion

  • Code changes are made in PCSCM.EXE so that PCOMM uses the HILM
    URL (which is configured from User Preferences) to obtain the
    HILM IP and compare with client adapter IP to determine that
    they belong to same network (VPN)
