Error description
A retention copy job will be automatically set to TERMINATED status if the second attempt to resume the job results in an INCOMPLETE state for the job. Messages are seen in the server activity log when the job is set to terminated by the system, for example: ANR0985I Process # for COPY RETENTION SET (SUMMARY) running in the BACKGROUND completed with completion state INCOMPLETE at hh:mm:ss. (SESSION: ####, PROCESS: ###, JOB: ###) ANR3852I Retention set with ID XX for rule <RULE_NAME> is copied to tape storage with state Incomplete. The following results are available: total number of retention set files: XX, number of copied files: YY, number of files that failed to copy: ZZ. (SESSION: ###, PROCESS: ###, JOB: ###) ANR4161E Job ### terminated by SYSTEM. (SESSION: ###, PROCESS: ###, JOB: ###) A query of the job with "QUERY JOB <id>" shows the status as terminated. A server trace shows the copy job can only be restarted twice before it is automatically set to terminated status: [imret.c][6961][imUpdateRetsetCopyRetry]:Current retry time is 2, already reach the max retry times, cannot be retried. . [admjob.c][1332][TraceMsg]:ANR4161E Job ### terminated by SYSTEM.~ The error that has lead to the job finishing as incomplete is not relevant, the job will be set to terminated after the second incomplete retry. Jobs that are interrupted by a server administrator (INTERRUPT JOB command) are not affected by this issue. This APAR will alter the observed behaviour, the incomplete job will be no longer terminated by the system. Termination of the job (TERMINATE JOB command) will be left to the discretion of the server administrator.
Local fix
Recreate the terminated retention set.
