Error description

  • IBM Spectrum Protect Plus backups of Microsoft SQL Server
    databases and Microsoft Exchange databases can take a long time,
    or appear to hang, while the agent is waiting for a reply from
    Microsoft VDS (Virtual Disk Service)

    This will happen after the vsnap ISCSI lun is mounted to the SQL
    Server and there is an issue with Microsoft VDS replying back to
    the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Agent.

Problem conclusion

  • Added a 30 minute timeout to rescan APIs on the Windows agent
    side. This will prevent the job from hanging if the rescan
    command hangs.
