APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When creating the primary queue manager instance in an RDQM
cluster, the 'crtmqm -sx' procedure creates the queue manager
directory structure in the /var/mqm/vols folder. This folder is
created when installing the MQSeriesRDQM package. If the folder
is missing when attempting to create the primary RDQM Queue
Manager (crtmqm -sx QM1), a generic message is displayed in
    the console:

AMQ3812E: Failed to create replicated data queue manager
    configuration.

Local fix

  • Manually create the missing /var/mqm/vols directory as below and
    retry the crtmqm operation.
    sudo mkdir /var/mqm/vols
    sudo chown mqm:mqm /var/mqm/vols
    sudo chmod 775 /var/mqm/vols

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
All IBM MQ RDQM user's who try to create Primary Queue Manager
and if there installation missing /var/mqm/vols Directory.

    Platforms affected:
    Linux on x86-64

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
MQ is unable to cope up with the missing "/var/mqm/vols"
directory which causes "crtmqm -sx" to fail with AMQ3812E. Also
the produced error message is more generic which is not helpful
    to determine the cause.

Problem conclusion

  • The IBM MQ code has been modified to automatically create
missing directory /var/mqm/vols and also to improve the
diagnostics by tracing specific errno and FDC upon failure.
