Error description

  • IBM Spectrum Protect server at 8.1.12.000 crashes in
    smMonitorTaskSessions with the following full failing stack:
    
    smMonitorTaskSessions() at 0x1000c1f50
    StatusMonitorGridsThread(??) at 0x1000c6020
    StartThread(0x0) at 0x1000114ac
    
    The crash can occur when the server monitor attempts to log
    information about a session that has already ended.
    
    The failing stack showing smMonitorTaskSessions as the routine
    for the point of failure for a server at  8.1.12.000  is
    indicative of this issue/APAR.  Dump/core analysis may be
    necessary to obtain the failing stack.

Local fix

  • If this server is not a hub or spoke server for an essential
    Operations Center (OC) management/administration configuration
    then status monitoring can be turned off to avoid this issue:
    SET STATUSMONITOR OFF
    Otherwise there is no other local fix.
