Error description

  • Users updated to PCOMM v14.0.3 and have observed a slow
    performance issue.

    The refresh rate of their host screens are
    slower than the previous PCOMM versions.

    Running it over
    Process Monitor, PCOMM v14.0.3 accesses the pcswin.ini file
    3388 times, just by refreshing (1 time) the host screen with
    ENTER key.

    Whereas running it in PCOMM v14.0.2 or other lower
    versions, we're accessing the pcswin.ini file only more or less
    84 times.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * With PCOMM 14.0.3 32-bit and 64-bit, slowness is seen after  *
    * every screen update or field update. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    After the upgrade to v14.0.3, PCOMM exhibits performance issues
    during a screen update or a field update.

    The PCSWIN.INI file reads have increased drastically as a
    regression of the implementation of "Color mapping customization
    using CMP configuration file" feature. This is affecting the
    performance as PCSWIN.INI file read calls are called from a loop
    whenever there is a screen update or a field update.

Problem conclusion

  • The PCSWIN.INI file read calls are minimized by calling them
    outside of the loop in PCSWS.EXE.
