Error description

  • The Oracle DB server is not coming online after reboot if vSnap
server in an IBM Spectrum Protect Plus environment is either off
or not reachable. During startup the mount software on Oracle DB
server is attempting the NFS (Network File System) to be mounted
    automatically.
By adding 'user, noauto' to the Oracle DB server '/etc/fstab'
configuration file, the Oracle DB server will reboot even if
vSnap server is either off or not reachable. The options
'user, noauto' will permit any user to mount the file system and
the mount will not be done automatically.

    Example:
     cat /etc/fstab | grep -i spp
     <IPvSnap>:/vsnap/vpool1/fsX /mnt/spp/vsnap/vool1/fsX/<IPvSnap>
        nfs rw,bg,hard,nointr,user,noauto,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,
        tcp,noac,actimeo=0,vers=3,timeo=600 0 0

The modified options at '/etc/fstab' are not shown at the job
log of the Oracle DB backup:

Local fix

  • Add mount options 'user, noauto' to Oracle configuration file
    '/etc/fstab'

Problem conclusion

  • Added no-auto to mount options for Oracle log backup target.
This will prevent startup issues of Oracle server if the vSnap
server is not reachable during that time.

Temporary fix
