IT36330: VSNAP SERVER MAINTENANCE IS NOT EXPIRING CLOUD COPY SNAPSHOTS.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Vsnap server maintenance is not
  expiring
  cloud copy snapshots.
  
  In the maintenance job log you
  may see the following:
  
  WARN, CTGGA1771,Deleting storage
  snapshot for policy Exception
  :Exception: message :"Snapshot
  spp_1021_2174_17467852a90_VMware
  cannot be deleted because it
  must be preserved in order to perform
  incremental
  replication/offload for the next snapshot;
  
  Even with Global
  preference "Force the removal of the replication
  relationship
  for last remaining snapshot" is already enabled.
  enabled, the
  older cloud snapshots do not get deleted due to
  invalid
  relationship blocking it.
  
  In this issue , when Sla is
  deleted and an invalid relationship
  is present blocking
  snapshot deletion ,
  Reason: Caused by changed of behavior on
  vsnap in 10.1.6 where Vsnap
  allows source volume deletion even
  when relationship is present but does
  not allow on target
  resulting in Snapshot Lock on Target volume snapshot.
  
  FYI :
  snapshotLockError is expected to be preserved relationship
  for
  incremental replication runs when job is not deleted,
  in this
  case the replication retention must be increased.
  
  Fixed in
  10.1.8 on Vsnap which allows target volume snapshot
  deletion
  when relationship is present and handled on SPP as
  well to find such case
  and remove the relationship before hand
  by enabling
  preference "Force the removal of the
  replication
  relationship for last remaining
  snapshot"

Problem conclusion

•  vSnap server maintenance has been enhanced to allow target
  volume snapshot deletion when a relationship is present. In
  addition, IBM Spectrum Protect Plus will find cases to remove
  the relationship beforehand by enabling the preference: "Force
  removal of the replication relationship for last remaining
  snapshot".
