IT35866: BACKUPS FAIL WITH THE ERROR "CTGGA2649 ERROR: THERE IS NO PROXY ON SITE <SITENAME> FOR VM <VMNAME>"

APAR status

Error description

  • During backups of Virtual Machines, IBM Spectrum Protect Plus
    queries the VADP proxies for the number of available cores when
    a change is detected in the VADP proxy registration (VM
    assigned to start backup, backup of a VM complete, ...). When
    sufficient cores are available on a VADP proxy, the VM to be
    backed up is assigned to it.
    This query is done by making a
    REST call to the proxy.
    When the REST call fails, the maximum
    number of allowed cores will be set to 0, resulting in the VADP
    proxy being unavailable to IBM Spectrum Protect Plus for
    further backups.
    
    
    The backup of the Virtual Machine will fail
    with following message in the
    Joblog:
    ERROR,<id>,<time>,2,CTGGA2649,Backup of VM <vmname>
    failed due to an unexpected error. Contact support for further
    assistance. Error: There is no proxy on site <sitename> for VM
    <vmname>.
    
    
    Reviewing the virgo log will show 'maxAllowedCores:
    0', which confirms the underlying issue:
    [time] INFO ... proxy

    maxAllowedCores: 0, ipv4Addresses.length: 3

Local fix
