APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client operations can
    sporadically fail with file open or close errors. The failure
    is not necessarily consistent or repeatable.
    
    When the client
    fails during a backup or archive operation, the dsmerror.log
    file contains the following messages:
    
     ANS0361I DIAG:
    TransErrno: Unexpected error from close, errno = 9
    
    or
    
    
    ANS0361I DIAG: TransErrno: Unexpected error from open, errno =
    9
    
    followed by:
    
     ANS1999E Incremental processing of
    '/filespace' stopped.
     ANS1028S An internal program error
    occurred.
    
    For scheduled operations, the following message will
    also appear:
    
     ANS1512E Scheduled event 'SCHEDULE' failed.
    Return code = 12.
    
    The error shown by the ANS0361I DIAG
    message, "errno = 9," means "Bad file descriptor." When the
    error is coming from "close," it means the file is not open.
    When the error comes from "open" it means the file is not
    closed. In both cases, this is caused by a timing issue.

    * IBM Spectrum Protect
    backup-archive client for AIX versions 7.1.8.x and 8.1.2 and
    higher (only when the tivoli.tsm.client.ba64.gpfs package is
    installed)
    
    * IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client for
    Linux versions 7.1.8.x and 8.1.2 and higher (all backup-archive
    client install packages)

Problem conclusion

  • Upon the fix, backup or archive operations won't encounter
    unexpected ANS0361I diagnostic messages any longer.
